Australian Trusted Trader is a voluntary accreditation programme that recognises secure and compliant industry supply chain practices, offering tailored trade facilitation benefits to accredited businesses.
This programme is a partnership between government and business underpinned by shared responsibility and transparency. It aims to streamline and facilitate trade and enhance supply chain security. Accreditation is available to all Australian businesses big and small who are active in the international trade supply chain and meet or exceed the required standards.
The programme was launched on 1 July 2015 and is being implemented in phases. Initially, a pilot phase will allow time to implement and test new processes across different industry sectors and explore the range of benefits and enhancements that might be offered. Several industry partners have been selected to participate in this early stage to share their knowledge and experience.
More broadly, we are working closely with industry throughout the design and implementation of Australian Trusted Trader through our Industry Advisory Group and other consultation forums. KGH Border Services is also assisting us throughout this process.
It is anticipated that Australian Trusted Trader will be fully operational from 1 July 2016. We are currently developing online applications from industry through a new online portal. The programme will be available to all Australian Business Number (ABN) holders that are actively involved in the international supply chain. This includes importers, exporters, domestic or international freight companies, ports, airports and brokers. More information is available on the Participation and accreditation webpage.
Businesses that demonstrate that they meet requirements relating to supply chain security and a history of trade compliance will be formally recognised as low-risk and accredited as Trusted Traders. Australian Trusted Trader will offer Trusted Traders benefits that reward better supply chain management and help businesses forge new global trade links and operate with greater certainty.
Consistent with international standards, the Australian Trusted Trader aligns with the World Customs Organization’s Standards to Secure and Facilitate Global Trade (the SAFE Framework). This allows more efficient clearance of low-risk cargo and provides us with opportunities to tailor border clearance requirements to particular risks specific to a business, their goods and supply chain. We welcome industry's continued involvement and look forward to receiving your expressions of interest when the programme becomes fully operational from 1 July 2016.
